Beachy Waves!

If your looking for natural beachy waves that look effortless and sea blown, I've found the best homemade solution!

Ingredients:
1 Tablespoon of Seasalt
1/4 Teaspoon of Coconut oil
1 cup of water
1 spray bottle

Directions:
Add all of the ingredients into the spray bottle and shake very well. Once you have washed your hair, towel dry until your hair is damp. Begin to spray the mixture all over your hair especially making sure to get the ends of your hair. As you spray, begin to scrunch your hair to the top of your head in small sections. When you feel that all of your hair has been covered evenly with the mixture, you can split your hair into four or five equal sections and twist the hair up and pin to the top of your head. Wait for the hair to dry and take the pins out. After you unfasten your twists, use hairspray to achieve your desired look. You can even use a curling iron to touch some peices up.

A Rainy Saturday Night In!

A dreary day is never a bad thing! I just completed my sophomore year at Temple and finished moving all my things home, a relaxing day like today was just what I needed! Being in the suburbs, all the green of nature pops, with the light raindrops on all the flowers, and the sound of the pidder-padder against the drain pipes are all so soothing. As dinner time rolled around no one felt like running out to the market in the dreary weather! Look around your kitchen, you would be surprised as to what you can whip up, even with the thought of "wow, we have nothing in this house!" Looking through our cabinets and fridge I made tuna melts with a side of broccoli! The baguette was in our freezer from from small French Pastry shop in my hometown, Le Petit Mitron, definitely check it out if you are ever in the neighborhood! Tuna is always a go to for me, especially this time of year.  Turn on some of your favorite tunes,  open a bottle of wine, dance around and enjoy making a delicious simple dinner with friends and family!

Heres how I made it:

1 tin of tuna
2 pieces of celery
(dice up red onions to add some extra crunch)
add a little love with a few spoonful of mayo
spice it up with a spoonful of  dijon mustard
and finally a dash of pepper and mix it all up

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
slice up a baguette and place a spoonful of tuna on each slice of bread
place in the oven until cheese melts!

For the broccoli I just boiled it until it almost melted in my mouth!

Tie it all together with a glass of your favorite wine, beer, or for me I just had some sparkling Sanpellegrino Limonata, one of my favorite drinks of summertime! Enjoy it around the kitchen table, on the patio, or with a great movie! I shared it with my mom and grandmom watching a comical old movie, The Pink Panther! Here is one of my favorite scenes!

Bon Appetit!

Mother's Day Brunch: Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Sautéed Apples

After you pick up the perfect gift for Mom at Arcadia, make her something she's sure to love, Lemon Ricotta Pancakes with Sautéed Apples--it's guaranteed to make you her favorite.

Servings: Makes about twelve 3- to 4-inch pancakes.

For the sauteed apples:

4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
fresh lemon juice to taste

For the pancakes:

4 large eggs, separated
1 1/3 cups ricotta
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons freshly grated lemon zest
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
Melted butter for brushing the griddle

Maple syrup, as an accompaniment

Prepare the sauteed apples:

In a large heavy skillet saute the apples in the butter over moderately high heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until they are softened, sprinkle them with the sugar and the cinnamon, and cook them over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 10 minutes, or until they are tender. Stir in the lemon juice and keep the mixture warm.

Make the pancakes:

In a bowl whisk together the egg yolks, the ricotta, the sugar, and the zest, add the flour, and stir the mixture until it is just combined. In a bowl with an electric mixer beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until they hold stiff peaks, whisk about one fourth of them into the ricotta mixture, and fold in the remaining whites gently but thoroughly. Heat a griddle over medium-low, until it is hot enough to make drops of water scatter over its surface and brush it with some of the melted butter. Working in batches, pour the batter onto the griddle by 1/4-cup measures and cook the pancakes for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until they are golden, brushing the griddle with some of the melted butter as necessary. Transfer the pancakes as they are cooked to a heatproof platter and keep them warm in a preheated 200°F oven.

Serve the pancakes with the sauteed apples and the maple syrup.

Enjoy! Happy Mother's Day!!!

In honor of Springtime and being the eco-conscious boutique that we are, I found these super-easy, super-cute ways to green up your space this Spring using items found around the house!

Switch Plate Planters: I love the hacker look of this, though I'm not sure I have tons of extra switch plates lying around--they can be purchased for very little at any hardware store. (via Apartment Therapy)

Cork Air Plant Magnets: What a cute use of old corks (and an excuse to drink more wine)! (via artCain on Etsy)

Linen Milk Carton: Simply wrap linen around a milk carton and add your favorite flowers! (Family Chic)

Happy planting!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

'Tis the season for some outdoor margarita sipping! One of my favorite drinks for today is a Prickly Pear margarita. Invite friends over and impress them with your mixing skills with this exotic drink!

The following recipe, by Sweet Life, makes 4 margaritas.

Ingredients:

Salt
Lime Wedges
1 cup tequila
1 cup fresh prickly pear water
1/3 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup Cointreau
Ice

On a small plate spread salt. With lime wedges moisten the rim of 6 ounce glasses. Dip glasses into salt. Place glasses into freezer to chill.

In a pitcher combine tequila, prickly pear water, lime juice and Cointreau. Remove glasses from freezer and serve margarita mixture over ice. Garnish with lime slices.

And match your outfit to your marg with the DV by Dolce Vita Adira Romper at Arcadia!

Happy sipping!
