Handbag Heaven

Seriously about to go into a handbag induced coma over our newest line of bags, Oliveve.  Expertly made in NYC, these handbags scream wear me, "the tightly edited collection has the sumptuous ease of your favorite slouchy, worn-in tee shirt".

As an avid handbag lover, I can safely say these have moved to the top of my list.  Just touching the Izzy Slouchy Sling bag sends me to the most perfect dreamland.  The designers have spent years working for top designers in the contemporary world, including Foley & Corinna, Botkier, Loeffler Randall, and Jill Stuart (and is it any coincidence I own handbags from about half of these famed designers, and covet the rest?!).

Arcadia featured in Daily Candy's "Living Green in Philly" Guide

Much love to Daily Candy to choosing Arcadia to be part of the "Living Green in Philly" guide! Here's what they had to say-->

Arcadia Boutique

When it comes to ecofriendly, it’s safe to say you’ve got one foot on the wagon. But Ali McCloud, owner of Arcadia Boutique, has both. And with her great selections, she’ll dress you head to toe in organic gear.

Stephen Starr comes to Fishtown?

Site of Stephen Starr's new beer garden

We first heard that Stephen Starr was planning to open a German style beer garden in Fishtown a little over a year ago, but now the rumor has been resurrected. Uwishunu.com says that the unnammed restaurant is set to open this summer.

Planphilly.com states that Starr hopes to open a 10,000-square foot, mostly outdoor beer garden  at 1210 Frankford Avenue in Fishtown, near Johnny Brenda's Tavern, this summer.

“The emphasis is absolutely on beer, in the spirit of German and Austrian beer gardens,” Starr said in a phone interview Monday afternoon.  The menu isn't set yet, he said, but the food will be “consistent with that concept,” although there may be a few lighter, healthier options, as well.

When asked why create a beer-focused venue, Starr said, “I'm always looking for something new to do. I get bored with myself.” Starr admits that while he has a cold one now and again, he's not even that into beer.  “I'm a wine guy,” he said. “Or, if I want a real drink, I have a martini.”

Why plop it down in Fishtown? Starr thinks it's an up-and-coming place.  “It has a nice scale to it. It is a true community,” he said. “Fishtown feels right. I can't put my finger on it – I just felt it.”

So what do you think about Philadelphia restaurateur, Stephen Starr moving into the Northern Liberties/Fishtown area?

Personally, the independent, local community aspect of these neighborhoods is what I love about them. I'm interested to see how Stephen Starr's beer garden stands up to some of my favorite local restaurants- The Abbaye, Johnny Brenda's, Kraftwork, etc. I have no doubt that it will be beautiful restaurant, meticulously designed and decorated...  but is anyone is Fishtown going to pay $5 for a bottle of Kenzinger?

Beach House at The Trocadero Theatre

Elise & I had the pleasure of seeing Beach House this past week in Philly. Appropriately, the show was sold out; fortunately, we were able to secure ourselves some tickets.

The tickets were pretty pricey so I was hoping that the show would be worth it. Because we all know there is nothing worse than seeing one of your favorite bands live and they sound terrible. This was DEFINITELY not the case with Beach House. They sounded incredible! Absolutely worth the $30 ticket. And not to mention that they had a sick set design.

Next time Beach House comes to your city, make sure you get your tickets well in advance. They are definitely not to be missed!

Cheers!

Baby Animals!

I've been waiting a few weeks to unleash this post, and I feel that the time has come.  Its no surprise to the gals at Arcadia, but I loooove baby animals.  So now, I'm sharing some of my favorite pictures to all of our fabulous followers.  These pictures cheer me up, especially on a yucky, rainy day like today.

Enjoy!

Arcadia does NYC!

This past Monday I had the opportunity to accompany Ali and Elise to a few tradeshows in NYC. I had never been to a tradeshow before so needless to say it was an awesome first time experience. After witnessing a woman almost get carried off the Megabus for bringing a hot tea on with her, I was ready to get out of Philly for the day and spend time drooling over all of the designers' fall 2011 collections. I met up with Ali and Elise at the NOW Showcase and got to check out two of Arcadia's favorite lines, Popomomo and Feral Childe. Let me tell you- it almost made me want it to be fall already just so I can get my hands on some of the merchandise- it's that good.

Next we headed over to D&A to check out other vendors including JADEtribe, Kim White and Preloved. I'm going to drop a little secret here and let you know you'll soon be able to pick up JADEtribe purses, weekend bags and wallets at Arcadia so stay tuned for more news about the arrival date!

After checking out the vendors at D&A we headed over to my favorite show, Capsule. Here we got to see lines that Arcadia carries such as HESTER, Rodebjer, Margarita Saplala and others that we've just picked up- including Collina Strada and D.co Copenhagen!! I forgot my camera at home but managed to grab a few shots during the Rodebjer meeting and around the show to give you a little visual taste of our day.

Scent of Flower - Fulvio Bonavia

I'm loving these images from Milan-based photographer, Fulvio Bonavia's series "Scent of Flower". Now if only I got to see someone riding around Rittenhouse on a vespa wearing that helmet, my day would be complete. Enjoy :)
